Job Overview:
Without appreciable direction and exercising considerable latitude in determining technical objectives and approaches to assignments, performs as an emerging authority in the test engineering organization. Develops solutions to complex problems which require the use of ingenuity and creativity. Contacts include interacting with customer personnel on technical matters often requiring coordinated activity across organizational lines. Will also support off-site activities associated with the assigned programs. May act as Test Operations customer interface for complex engine test programs.
Responsibilities:
Typical responsibilities include:
(50%) Plan, conduct, and technically direct all phases of test projects for liquid engine component and assemblies. This will include the coordination with the Program Office/Project Engineer as well as other support groups including off-site organizations and locations. Will act as the primary interface within the Test Organization for that project. Will direct less senior engineers or support staff during the test campaign to ensure test objectives are met both technically and within all permitted conditions. Travel to specific test locations is required.
(40%) Responsible for Test Operations oversight for the design, construction, activation, and operation of test facilities used in support of liquid cryogenic and storable test programs. Will input and support all critical reviews in preparation for a given test campaign. Will supervise less senior engineers in the preparation of review materials, analyses, and presentations.
(5%) Provide technical input to proposal efforts, design reviews, and technical interchange meetings. Will act as an internal resource for test facility design, propellant operations, and test article handling; will mentor less senior engineers in all aspects of test operations.
(5%) Responsible for adherence to project budgets. Will act as control account manager for test specific budgets and will status the program office as required. All project labor and non-labor costs will be monitored to ensure cost compliance; will monitor all project tasks to ensure compliance to proposed work effort.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in an appropriate science and nine years of related technical experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience). Advanced degree preferred. Must have previous experience in propellant operations of storable (N204, Hydrazine, MMH, UDMH, etc.) and cryogenic (LOX, LH2, LN2, etc.)liquids. Test facility design and operational experience is preferred.
Workplace may include areas where chemical materials are encountered. May involve exposure to variable noise levels. Must customarily have a high consciousness for personnel and equipment safety. May be
required to utilize a variety of personal protective equipment.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship).
