More information about this job: Job Overview: Under general direction from structural analysis group manager, performs engineering assignments requiring a wide application of advanced principles, theories and concepts in the field of aerospace structural analysis plus a working knowledge of other related disciplines. Conducts sufficient structural analysis to ensure the feasibility of, and help direct the design of, systems and components for proposals and development programs. Responsibilities: 10% - Read and understand aerospace technical requirements for specific Aerojet products and ensure adequate analysis methods and models are used to verify the design is in compliance with all structural requirements. 50% - Conduct the loading, stress and failure analysis of components to be designed and/or built by Aerojet. These analyses may include static loading, dynamic loading and composite materials. Material and geometric nonlinear analyses are sometime required. Computer aided design based mesh generation and finite element analysis capabilities are required. Previous NX, ABAQUS and/or ANSYS experience is a plus. 15% - Prepare reports, design review presentations, proposal inputs and other documentation regarding the structural analysis of Aerojet products. 10% - Advise mechanical design and project engineers for Aerojet products as dictated by load carrying capacity and material performance needs. This is accomplished by informal discussions between team members and in-house design team meetings. 10% - Plan, evaluate and document experimental structural test results for anchoring structural models and demonstrating adequacy of analyses conducted on the tested article. 5% Administer and instruct less senior engineers working in stress analysis Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives. Erroneous decisions or recommendations or failure to get results may result in serious project delays and considerable expenditure of resources. Inter-organizational contacts are frequent while outside customer contacts are occasional in providing solutions to technical problems associated with specific assignments. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in related engineering degree (Mechanical/Civil/Aerospace) and five years of directly related experience in structural analysis; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Masters degree preferred. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship). |
