Overview:
Under little or no direction, perform assignments requiring a broad understanding of engineering principles and a working knowledge of other related disciplines. Work in an integrated product team environment developing rocket propulsion systems.
Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each):
75% - Conduct functional analysis to define rocket and air-breathing propulsion systems architecture and objectives. Perform propulsion trade studies in order to select optimum solutions that meet mission needs and optimize cost/benefit trades. Conceptualize vehicle and/or spacecraft configurations and select component elements using trade study criteria. Conduct preliminary sizing of propulsion systems, and derive sub-system and component requirements. Provide system fault tolerance, health monitoring, and/or control system considerations in development. Conducts project risk assessments and prepares and reports results on compliance plans.
25% - Provide project leadership of the design team and communicates results in oral presentations and written communication. Balance technical, cost and schedule risks during development project to achieve successful outcomes. Liaison with Designers to assure timely generation of CAD models and drawings.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering preferred) or appropriate discipline/science and 9 years of directly related technical experience in Engineering disciplines or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced degree desirable. Working knowledge of CAD tools (UG or Pro-E) required. Demonstrated experience in the design and development of complex mechanical systems is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship).
