Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each):
Performs rocket propulsion system engineering assignments requiring a broad understanding of engineering principles and a working knowledge of other related disciplines to define rocket propulsion system architecture and objectives.
40% - Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to support development of system architecture and objectives by performing preliminary sizing analysis and transient/steady state analysis for rocket propulsion systems using system simulation software tools including Matlab/Simulink and using and developing custom software applications. Performs functional analysis and conducts system trade studies. Shares responsibility for selecting concept baselines that optimize cost/benefit trades. Works with team to assess system fault tolerance and health monitoring.
25% - Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to support development of rocket propulsion hardware and software requirements, including involvement in and coordination of derivation of internal requirements, requirements allocation, and compliance management. Independently responsible for working with team members on development of verification plans using customer requirements and contract statement of work (SOW). Plans and supports propulsion systems development tests and verification testing through solid and liquid rocket motor test setup, conduct, and data reduction.
25% - Conceives and plans development of new software applications and complex math models using several programming languages (Fortran, C/C++, VisualBasic, etc.) and other software for imaginative, thorough solutions to complex technical in the optimization of propulsion systems.
10% - Documents work in reports and presentations, and presents results to large audiences, including customer personnel. Reviews work of peers and less experienced engineers. Coordinates and participates in Integrated Product Team meetings.
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree or advanced degree (preferred) in Aerospace Engineering or appropriate discipline/science, with coursework in propulsion systems and systems engineering, and five (5) years of directly applicable industry technical experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience). Rocket propulsion industry technical experience preferred. Liquid and solid propellant rocket propulsion experience also desired. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship).
