Overview:
This position is for Summer 2012.
Under close supervision and following specific detailed instructions, performs entry level Systems Analysis assignments. The position requires a limited use and/or application of basic principles, theories and concepts of Systems Analysis Engineering for aerospace system development.
Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each):
50% - Applies theoretical knowledge and engineering techniques to support development of system architecture and objectives by performing preliminary sizing analysis and transient/steady state analysis for rocket propulsion systems using system simulation software tools including Matlab/Simulink and custom software applications. Performs functional analysis and conducts system trade studies. Assists in selecting concept baselines that optimize cost/benefit trades, using statistical tools and methods. Works with team to assess system fault tolerance and health monitoring.
20% - Participates in developing rocket propulsion hardware and software requirements, including involvement internal requirement derivation, requirements allocation, and compliance management. Participates in development of verification plans using customer requirements and contract statement of work. Supports propulsion systems development tests and verification testing through solid rocket motor and liquid rocket engine test setup, conduct, and data reduction.
20% - Revises software applications and updates basic math models using several programming languages (Fortran, C/C++, VisualBasic, Matlab/Simulink etc.) and other software to model and optimize propulsion systems.
10% - Documents work in reports and presentations, and presents results to engineering team. Reviews work of peers. Participates in Integrated Product Team meetings.
Requirements:
Candidate must be enrolled and have completed Junior year of study in a BS Engineering program (Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or related major) OR enrolled in an MS Engineering program (Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering). Strong academic track record of success. Solid written and oral communication skills. Rocket Propulsion course work strongly desired. U.S. Citizenship, Permanent Residency or other status as a U.S. Person required.
