Overview:
This is an exciting opportunity to perform challenging work in the Combustion analysis area. Aerojet is looking of an experienced engineer as a key contributor in our Combustion group in the Analysis department. The candidate will be a key contributor primarily working in the field of combustion devices within our liquid rocket engines programs. The position of Engineering Specialist will be responsible to conduct combustion analysis to advance the design of next generation liquid propulsion systems. The candidate will become part of Aerojet’s team to develop and demonstrate the required combustion tests and analytical tools including state of the art CFD-based combustion stability model for liquid propulsion applications. Extensive hands-on work experience with combustion devices used in liquid rocket propulsion is required.
Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each):
60% - Under minimal supervision, perform combustion related analysis such as combustion instability and performance prediction, provide test support and data reduction for combustion devices related hot fire tests for both liquid and air breathing propulsion systems. As a Lead Engineer in the Combustion group, the candidate will be responsible for the oversight of other engineers and team members working on combustion devices of the liquid propulsion systems. Will be responsible for the planning and cost estimating of combustion analysis tasks, coordination of analysis efforts with chief engineer and IPT team members, pre-test predictions and post-test analysis of test data to validate component and system analysis models.
30% - Participate in design and verification tests of combustion related liquid propulsion and hypersonic propulsion systems and components. Participate in team meetings, technical reviews, design reviews, peer reviews and problem solving meetings. The candidate will coordinate the implementation of combustion related solutions for liquid propulsion applications with design engineers, analysts, test, and manufacturing engineers in a multi-discipline project team
10% - Produce analysis reports and test reports, and present analysis results to both internal and external customers.
Requirements:
BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering or related discipline and at least nine years of directly applicable technical experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). Advanced degree preferred. Demonstrated hands-on experience and analysis capability in combustion of liquid propulsion is required. Demonstrated capabilities in developing methodology in combustion stability of liquid rocket propulsion are preferred. Team leadership abilities are a must. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship).
