Overview:
Without appreciable direction, performs control system engineering assignments requiring a broad understanding of controls engineering principles and a working knowledge of other related disciplines to define rocket propulsion system architecture and objectives.
Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each):
40% - Leads efforts and applies advanced techniques and the modifications and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of own field and related sciences and disciplines to support development of system architecture and thru performance of preliminary sizing analysis and transient/steady state analysis for rocket propulsion systems. Guides and mentors team in using system simulation software tools including Matlab/Simulink and using and developing custom software applications. Performs functional analysis and conducts system trade studies. Leads efforts to select concept baselines that optimize cost/benefit trades. Works with team to develop control system algorithms, and assess system fault tolerance, and health monitoring.

25% - Leads efforts and applies advanced techniques and the modifications and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of own field and related sciences and disciplines to support development of rocket propulsion hardware and software requirements, including leadership of derivation of internal requirements, requirements allocation, and compliance management. Leads team members in development of verification plans using customer requirements and contract statement of work (SOW). Leads efforts to plan and support propulsion systems development tests and verification testing through solid rocket motor test setup, conduct, and data reduction. Assesses feasibility of proposed products, testing and analyses and reviews results of other team members for technical accuracy.

25% Plans, conducts, and directs development of software applications and a wide range of math models using several programming languages (Fortran, C/C++, VisualBasic, etc.) and other software, using advanced techniques in controls engineering to optimize propulsion systems.

10% Documents work in reports and presentations, and presents results to large diverse audiences that include customer and industry technical experts. Reviews work of peers and less experienced engineers. Leads and participates in Integrated Product Team meetings.
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or appropriate controls related discipline/science and nine years of directly related industry experience required (or equivalent combination of education and experience). Advanced degree preferred. Coursework and experience in propulsion systems and linear/digital controls required. Rocket propulsion industry technical experience preferred, especially with control systems. Experience with Matlab/Simulink desired. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship).
