Overview:
This position requires studying of blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or
sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of
operations, and setup for the machining of complex aerospace parts.
Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each):
Sets up and operates both CNC lathes and CNC milling centers along with conventional
machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, boring mills, VTLs, and grinders for fabrication
of metallic and nonmetallic work pieces.
Must be able to select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments,
accessories, and materials on machines such as CNC lathes, CNC milling centers, lathes,
milling machines, boring mills, VTLs and grinders.
Makes necessary calculations, uses calipers, micrometers, and gages to verify specification
compliance.
Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining,
and adjusts machine controls as necessary.
Requirements:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
5+ years experience with a combination of both CNC Machining and Conventional Machining
in a metal manufacturing shop or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating instructions,
and procedure manuals. Must have working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and
tolerancing (GD&T). Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry. Ability to
calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow,
depth and angle of cut, enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine
control media.
