Overview:
This position performs professional quality engineering assignments following established policies under the guidance of more senior engineers and managers. This is a 3rd shift position which provides oversight, input and direction to nondestructive test inspectors. The incumbent requires a thorough understanding of Radiography and will be required to be certified internally as a Level 3 NDT engineer in the radiographic discipline. Interfaces with other Quality Engineers and shift management during turnover.
Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each):
80% - Oversees Level 2 NDT Inspectors in the performance of their inspection duties. Ensures all work is done in accordance with approved production planning, NDT work instructions, NDT techniques and general command media. Reviews inspected hardware to ensure quality of inspection and compliance to processes are maintained. Provide training in their area of expertise as required. Perform or participate in NDT Facility Audits as required. Provide necessary floor support for NDT processing and technical issues. Review, write, and approve NDT techniques and procedures as necessary to support production requirements.
Support AESOP meetings to include any discussions on any safety (accidents, near misses, cause and corrective actions) technical, or scheduling issues. Ensure compliance of Safety, Environmental and Material Handling Procedures.
20% - Communicate issues between 3rd shift and the 1st and 2nd shifts. Communicates with functional groups such as maintenance and scheduling to ensure continued operations. Ensures hardware is processed through the work center in a timely manner.
Requirements:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Also requires, Level 2 NDT radiography certification with the experience and ability to achieve Level 3 certification within 3 months of hire. Shall hold a minimum of one major and two minor Level II NDT Certifications. Should have general knowledge (equivalent to Level I classroom training) of other NDT processes. Ability to provide interface to inspectors, NDT Engineering, Management, IPT Team members, and other customers Must have good communications skills. Requires good computer skills (Word, Excel). Ability to problem solve and the ability to work and communicate effectively in a team environment required. Aerospace industry and ‘human-rated’ systems experience preferred. ASNT certifications are a plus. Shift work may be required. Some travel within the U.S. is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required).
