Overview:
Aerojet, a premier aerospace and defense company specializing in missile and space propulsion, is seeking an experienced engineer as a key contributor in our thermal analysis group. The candidate will be a senior staff member primarily working in thermal analysis area to perform analyses and support testing for both solid and liquid propulsion systems. The position of Senior Engineer will be responsible to conduct engineering thermal analysis for propulsion systems using commercial software tools such as ANSYS and Thermal Desktop and in-house computer tools. Solid understanding of the heat transfer discipline is required. Demonstrated skills with finite element modeling and programming are preferred. Candidate will be working from our main office in Sacramento, CA.
Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each):
70% Perform thermal analysis primarily for liquid propulsion systems and components. Interface with designers, project engineers, and other analytical disciplines (CFD, structural, etc.) to ensure the design meets thermal requirements. Typical responsibilities include conducting finite element modeling on propulsion systems and components comprising metallic and non-metallic materials. Types of analyses required are thermal finite element models with analytically derived thermal boundary conditions, thermal ablation models, and spacecraft thermal system models. Candidate will also participate in team meetings, technical reviews, design reviews, peer reviews and problem solving meetings.
20% Support thermal verification tests of propulsion systems and components. Develop test plans, specify instrumentation and analyze test results. Candidate will participate in team meetings, technical reviews, design reviews, peer reviews and problem solving meetings. Candidate will be part of Aerojet’s team to develop analysis tools and methodologies that improve the thermal analysis process.
10% - Produce thermal analysis reports and make presentations of analysis results to both internal and external customers. Provide technical guidance to junior analysts.
Requirements:
BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering and at least five years directly applicable technical experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Demonstrated experience in thermal analysis modeling required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship).
